Once you have determined what length of curtains you would like you need to then measure the length with a tape measure curtains are usually manufactured or made in pairs but the measurements you see on ready made curtains on the packaging is individual curtain measurements rather than both of them together generally the total width of both curtains should be 2 to 2 times the width of the curtain pole or the track. This is only a rough guide and if you have any other questions please get in touch with us here at curtains online. Curtain tips Curtains can add a touch of class to any room and not just to control the lighting and your privacy made-to-measure curtains can come in many different colours and designs with so much choice out there sometimes it can be confusing so we decided to put some tips together to help you choose your curtains depending on what type of room they will be placed in.
Lets start right at the beginning: Step ladders: Make sure you have a steady pair of steps not to short so you over reach. Your arms will drop of before you have taken your first lesson in how to hang curtains. Not to tall that you cannot reach the window comfortably without leaning out to the side to hang curtains throwing you off balance. Curtain hooks for standard pencil pleat curtain tape Curtain hooks Again make sure before you start that you have enough of the right kind of curtain hooks Light curtains will be fine with standard plastic hooks.
Simple tip on gathering your curtains. Take one set of knotted cords and hook over a door handle or some other fixed object. Then use one hand to hold the curtain tape and with the other hand start to pull the tape away from the door handle. You will see the heading on your curtain start to pleat. How wide do you curtains need to be? Next check what half the width of your track or rod measures. Lets say your track is 100 inches long. You half this to 50 inches, then add on 2 inches to allow your curtains to comfortably meet in the middle when hanging.
Silk organza or muslin will be ideal fabrics to use but you could also create amazing unconventional window dressings with sari fabric, netting or lace. Browse around at flea markets, thrift stores or garage sales and youll be amazed at what you can find that can inspire you to create striking designs for your windows. Next, I will explain to you step-by-step how to create your own embellished romantic rose (organza) curtain, you will need the following: • 2 x organza curtains (preferably with tab tops, these are generally readily available at curtain stores, be sure to measure the width and length of your window to ensure that the curtains will fit, alternatively, you can actually purchase organza fabric and fit them to the window yourself. • 1 x awl (this is a pointed instrument for piercing holes through fabric, leather or wood etc. any art and craft store should stock them). • 12 x artificial roses (can be bought from most Asian outlets, preferably the same or similar colour as the organza curtain, using clashing colours can make the curtain appear disjointed and chaotic. NB Be sure that the rose bud can come apart from the plastic backing of the flower, once the rose and the stem is pushed through the curtain the backing has to be placed back onto the stem on the other side of the curtain in order for the rose to be secured into place. • 1 x Curtain wire or wooden dowel (can be bought from curtain store or home improvement store). • 2 x Hooks and 2 x screw eyes (can be bought from curtain store). • 1 x pliers or hand saw (can be bought from any home improvement store).
Curtains and curtain tracks or poles can be bent to fit a bay window Although some vertical blinds can be bent to the shape of a bay window, a vertical blind will take away the lovely effect and leave the room looking more like an office. A curtain track or curtain pole can be made to measure and bent to suit a bay window and the curtains will once again add elegance and style. Curtain tracks are also more flexible and can be made to fit a wider range of bay windows. Increased fitting flexibility Some of todays more modern windows and patio doors open inwards leaving little space to fix. With curtain tracks that can be as small as 5mm and some that can even be recess fixed into a ceiling, this will leave plenty of room for a window or door to open inwards.
